vs. Informal
• Formal ponds are
architectural and geometric in nature (i.e. circular
fountain, rectangular reflecting pool, etc).
• Informal ponds are natural looking and irregular in shape and are
designed to blend in to the landscape.
• Which style best suits your own personal taste and the nature
of your yard ?

Impact
• The size and style of
a water feature will determine whether it will become
the focal point of your yard.
• How commanding do you want the water feature to be
in your landscape?

• One of the principal
draws of water features is the sound of moving water.

Pools, Streams and Waterfalls
• Almost all water features will
include a pool of some sort, but the main focus of the feature
may instead be on another element such as a stream or waterfall.
• Within given space limitations, a feature may include any combination
of pools, waterfalls, stream sections and fountains.

Pond Life
• The addition of aquatic
plants and fish can greatly enhance the pond experience,
but with both come additional maintenance responsibilities.
A pond with fish requires greater depth as well as
more filtration than one without.
• Do you want to have fish in the pond?
• Are there any specific types of water plants (i.e. water lilies)
that you would like to have?
